Mission Statement
The Nanuet Public Library is dedicated to be a civic resource promoting open access to information, materials and services to all residents of the Nanuet School District to advance knowledge, foster creativity, encourage the exchange of ideas, build community and enhance the quality of life.

From Tappan Zee Bridge:

Get a Library Card
Library Card Policy
The Nanuet Public Library, a member of the Ramapo Catskill Library System (RCLS), is chartered by New York State to provide materials and services to residents of the Nanuet Union Free School District (NUFSD). Application for all cards must be made in person.
Full Library Service Card: Can be used in all RCLS libraries.
- Available to permanent residents of the NUFSD
- Two legal documents are required as proof of residence:
- Government-issued Photo Identification (ex: driver’s license)
- Proof of current address within the library district (ex: utility bill)
Limited Library Service Card:
- Use is limited to the Nanuet Public Library only and materials owned by the Nanuet Public Library.
- Available to permanent residents of the library district who can provide proof of current address within the library district as described above but cannot provide government-issued photo identification.
Child's Card: (Kindergarten through Grade 8)
- Library cards are issued to children who reach Kindergarten or the age of five.
- Parents/guardians are required to sign for children who are in eighth grade or younger.
- Parents/guardians are responsible for the selection and return of all materials borrowed until the borrower reaches ninth grade.
- Parents must provide identification as described above for full or limited service cards.
- Beginning with 9th grade, children are issued library cards without a parent’s signature, but must provide proof of residence as follows:
- A picture ID from the Nanuet Union Free School District for a full service card or parent’s/guardian’s proof of identification and address as described above for a full or limited service card.
- Adult cards are issued at the age of eighteen.
Non-Resident Card:
- RCLS residents must obtain library cards from the community in which they live. The Library issues two non-resident cards to those who reside outside RCLS:
- $50.00 annually for a card limited to use in the Nanuet Public Library only
- A full service annual library card for use in all libraries within RCLS for an annually calculated amount equal to the average tax paid by a library district resident
Courtesy Card:
- NUFSD teachers who reside outside RCLS will be issued nine-month courtesy cards free of charge for limited service at the beginning of each school year.
- Proof of employment is required.
Business Owners and Their Employees:
- Business owners who reside within RCLS must obtain their cards from the library where their home is located.
- Business owners who reside outside RCLS will be issued full-service cards with government-issued photo identification and proof of property ownership within the NUFSD. Employees who reside outside RCLS may obtain a non-resident card.
Post Office Boxes
- The library does not issue library cards to individuals with a post office box address only.
- The library reserves the right to issue limited access cards to non-permanent residents of the library district.
Responsibilities of Cardholders
- Cardholders are responsible for all materials borrowed with the card, prompt notification of the loss of the card, and prompt notification of a change of address.
- The card must be presented to check out materials.
- The card may not be loaned to anyone else.

Loan Periods & Extended Use Fees
Museum Passes
Sponsored by the Friends of the Nanuet Library
- The Nanuet Public Library loans membership passes to a number of area museums.
- The membership passes are available for loan to adult Nanuet Public Library patrons in good standing. A current Nanuet Public Library card is required.
- Families and individuals may borrow only one pass at a time.
- Passes cannot be reserved in advance but will be held for a maximum of thirty minutes by the library's clock, provided the desired pass is available in the library at the time the request is made.
- Please call 623-4281 x 128 or stop by the Adult Reference Desk to check on the availability of a pass.
- Passes circulate for three (3) days. (ex: a pass borrowed on a Tuesday is due on Friday).
- Passes must be returned in person to the circulation desk.
- A $5.00 fine will be imposed if the pass is returned in the book drop.
- Passes cannot be renewed.
- A late fee of $10 per day, up to the cost of museum membership, will be imposed for every day the pass is late.
- Replacement cost for lost passes is the museum’s charge to the Friends of the Library for a replacement pass.
- It is the borrower’s responsibility to confirm hours of operation, exhibits, parking fees, etc.
- Failure to abide by these regulations may result in forfeiture of borrowing privileges.
- Regulations may be revised at any time.
